Didn’t want to conclude this particular series without profiling the efforts of the most prolific act on the current Phunkwhatchaheard Radio roster, Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra. I was forced to pay close attention to Lee back in 2000 with the release of his single “Happiness”. Since then, he & his Ping Pong Orchestra have managed to release over 18 albums (including the numerous, brow-raising collaborations with Clutchy Hopkins as of late). In the tradition of the classic soul funksters, Shawn Lee manages to consistently raise the envelope with each release.
Here’s to one-hundred (100) shows of the Phunk(whatchaheard), Jaekim’s “Sharing Spindles” (based on Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra’s “Carol of the Bells”)!
