So, we’ve reached the 100th episode of Phunkwhatchaheard Radio on KTRU-FM. Back in ‘08, I admittedly approached the program with my own objectives. 1) Pay homage to the talented individuals from back in the day, that made it possible for someone like me to express fully via the (diverse) sounds of music; and 2) Seek to prove that the words “funk” &/or “soul” shouldn’t always be synonymous with the old-school. A lot of what we see taking place today via your favorite acts of today, is simply manifestation of now-infamous roots planted before us (ultimately making it a continuum).
To help mark this personal milestone, why not give a nod to a few individuals currently carrying the torch for everything previously described. It’s important to note that those featured represent some of the more memorable debuts in Phunkwhatchaheard’s 2-year history.
“R.I.P.” is found on Georgia Anne Muldrow’s King’s Ballad LP (Ubiquity Records), known for it’s moving tribute to the world’s greatest entertainer. With that said, enjoy the remix!
